Projects in Progress

Currently, EMSQC employs 150 inspectors on various types of projects including, but not limited to;  pipelines, compressor stations, distribution systems, storage and production facilities, etc.  A few of these larger projects are listed below.

Boardwalk - Gulf Southeastern Expansion Project:

Gulf South, a Boardwalk Pipeline Partners company, awarded EMS Quality Control a substantial portion of inspection on Phase II of their Southeastern Expansion project set to begin November 1st.  Phase II of the Southeastern Expansion project is a 112 mile, 42" pipeline from Harrisville, Mississippi to West Butler, Alabama.  Spread II will begin in Laurel, Mississippi.  As part of this project, EMS Quality Control was also awarded inspection responsibilities on two associated new installation compressor station projects in Delhi, Louisiana and Harrisville, Mississippi.  This project is scheduled to be complete in February 2008.

In addition to the projects mentioned above, Gulf South also awarded EMS Quality Control inspection responsibilities on a 3.7 mile, 36" pipeline project in Carthage, Texas that will tie into the 42".  This project will be completed in December 2007.

Equitrans Big Sandy Pipeline Project:

In October 2006, Energy Management & Services Co. (EMS) was awarded inspection on the Equitrans Big Sandy Pipeline project in eastern Kentucky.  The project consists of new construction on 70 miles of 20" pipeline and associated facilities located in several counties through a variety of terrain.  EMS Quality Control contracted to provide EMS with the inspection personnel that would be utilized on the project.  Currently, EMS Quality Control is employing approximately 35 inspectors on the project of which 50 miles are complete.  In addition to the normal inspection responsibilities, EMS Quality Control is conducting a GPS data collection effort whereby inspectors will collect condition of pipe data, including weld data at specific points on the pipeline utilizing GPS coordinates so that Equitrans may integrate them into their GIS system for future reference.

Other Clients and Projects

EMSQC is constantly seeking to expand its client base.  While the pipeline projects for the clients noted above constitute the majority of our inspection personnel, we are employing a number of inspectors on projects of a different magnitude in scope and project inspection requirements which are equally important to the success of our company.  These projects are both facility and pipeline and require the same high level of expertise we maintain on the aforementioned projects.  These projects are currently in progress for the clients noted below:

Chesapeake Energy

Enerteq Engineering

Falcon Gas

Louis Dreyfus

Nisource

Northern Natural Gas

Penn Virginia Oil & Gas

Quicksilver

Texas Gas

What's on the Horizon

Due to the prolonged high level of activity in the industry, which experts seem to think will last for quite some time, EMSQC would certainly welcome updated contact information from any qualified inspectors.  One specific area that we anticipate a shortage is in the area of environmental inspection.  With the numerous projects in progress and projected for the next couple of years, coupled with the fact that qualified environmental inspectors are at a premium, the industry may experience an extreme shortage in that discipline.  If you know of any inspectors with any type of inspection background who may be interested in working for EMSQC in the near future, please have them send an updated resume to inspection@emsqc.com or fax it to (281) 576-6708.

Safety Tip of the Month

Safe Travel on the Road

Winter conditions call for different driving tactics.  Ice and Snow, Take it Slow - slower speed, slower acceleration, slower steering, and slower braking.  Give yourself extra time to reach your destination safely.  It's not worth putting yourself and others in a dangerous situation just to be on time.

  • Drive with your headlights on.
  • Ice and Snow - Take it Slow.  Drive for conditions.  Don't get overconfident with four-wheel drive.  It won't help you stop any faster.
  •  Drivers should allow additional room between their vehicles and others.  Winter road conditions often result in longer stopping distances.
  • Slow down when approaching intersections, off-ramps, bridges or shady spots.  These are all candidates for developing for developing black ice - a thin coating of clear ice that can form on the pavement surface that may be difficult to see.
  • Avoid abrupt actions while steering, braking or accelerating to lessen the chances of losing control of the vehicle.
  • Look farther ahead in traffic.  Action by other drivers will alert you to problems and give you extra time to react.
  • Trucks take longer to stop.  Don't cut in front of them.
  • Avoid using cruise control or overdrive.  Don't let your car make a bad decision for you.
  • Stopping on snow and ice without skidding requires extra time and distance.  If you have anti-lock brakes, press the pedal down firmly and hold it.  If you don't have anti-lock brakes, gently pump the pedal.  Either way, give yourself plenty of room to stop.
